Toledo Public Schools Calendar 2020 21 – Beginning with the freshman class of 2017, the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences is embarking on a major curriculum overhaul with an emphasis on a competency-based curriculum with early clinical experiences and seamless integration of basic and clinical sciences.

Our third-year program is designed to prepare students for postgraduate medical education, with students entering medical education immediately after graduating from medical school. Clinical internships are held at the University of Toledo Medical Center and other local teaching hospitals. Students can also complete required service at designated locations in Columbus, Ohio, Southern Michigan, and Detroit.

The fourth year of elective practicum consists of 44 weeks and includes core science electives and a mandatory performance practicum. Students have the opportunity to take a wide range of practicum electives, including clinical research opportunities and public health electives.

A minimum of a 12-week elective internship must be completed at the University of Toledo School of Medicine and Life Sciences or an affiliated location. Additional electives in the fourth year of medical school may be taken at any medical school in the United States or Canada subject to the approval of the UT sponsoring department. In addition, students can take global health electives at the following locations:

All students complete a minimum of eight weeks of internship at the Rural Health Education Centers (AHEC), which include Bryan Regional Health Education Center, Lima Regional Health Education Center, and Sandusky Regional Health Education Center. Regional centers work with schools, health departments and organizations to address specific public health issues.

Many of our students say the experience is very rewarding because they get to spend a lot of one-on-one time with their mentors and learn about everyday health issues outside of an academic medical center. Toledo Public Schools has canceled fall sports for the 2020-21 school year as high school teams in the Buckeye State can begin fall sports practices on Saturday.

Additionally, all TPS fall sports for the 2020-21 school year will be canceled and winter sports will be graded on October 1st.

TPS is the second local school district to host an online-only program. Bowling Green Schools issued its own statement last week, ordering to keep students online until at least mid-October before reevaluating. Most other school districts in northwest Ohio have opted for a hybrid option, where students return to campus for part of the week and learn online the rest of the week.
